Farmers apply more fertilizers and pesticides to the soil and relying less on the inherent fertility of the soil. As soil health and soil carbon (fertility) declines, farmers are forced to use more and more fertilizers that increasingly run off into farm ponds, streams, and rivers, contaminate food chains and food webs harming humans and wildlife. It is high time to restore and reintroduce life and carbon in soils to answer many problems associated with crop production and climate change. There are different ways and means of agricultural practices better adopted to improve carbon storage, soil health and sustainable food production. To start with integrated crop nutrition practices followed by high intensive organic practices that will bring back life to the soil through carbon sequestration.
