Bio Innovations for Regenerative Agriculture

There has been a steady and growing realization that biologicals are here to stay because of all the benefits of using a biological – the increase in biodiversity and soil health and reduction in greenhouse gases and carbon footprint.

The good news is we are hearing more about measuring return on investment (ROI), where it is not just the price per jug/ price per acre or hectare, but rather what yield and quality increase that input cost gets you.

On another note, given the pressure on chemical pesticides and the innovation and increased performance of biologicals, larger companies continue to invest in biologicals through collaborations and M&A activity. Valuations continue to be quite robust on the private side, while the public markets have been terribly unfavourable for the whole ag biotech sector, with record low valuations. Sustainable agriculture and the biologicals sector are very dynamic and will continue to change rapidly. What worked in the past is not necessarily how to operate going forward.

SOIL-CROP-FOOD-HEALTH, THE BROKEN CHAIN - WILL REGENERATIVE AGRICULTURE RESTORE IT?

REGENERATIVE AGRICULTURE

Conservation of natural resources and implementation of fair farming systems through sustainable agricultural practices and techniques to

  • Enhance and improve soil health
  • Optimise resource utilisation
  • Mitigate climate change, and
  • Improve water quality and availability.

SOIL-MICROBES-CARBON-FARMING-FOOD

Farmers apply more fertilizers and pesticides to the soil and relying less on the inherent fertility of the soil. As soil health and soil carbon (fertility) declines, farmers are forced to use more and more fertilizers that increasingly run off into farm ponds, streams, and rivers, contaminate food chains and food webs harming humans and wildlife. It is high time to restore and reintroduce life and carbon in soils to answer many problems associated with crop production and climate change. There are different ways and means of agricultural practices better adopted to improve carbon storage, soil health and sustainable food production. To start with integrated crop nutrition practices followed by high intensive organic practices that will bring back life to the soil through carbon sequestration. One such initiative is building Soil Organic Carbon through Soil Microbiome Optimization, forms part of carbon farming techniques that extract CO2 from the atmosphere and store it in soils. BioAgri 2023 will focus on the innovations, services, and delivery systems to use and implement to bring back life to the soils, biodiversity restoration which will lead to regenerative abd sustainable agriculture. regenerative Agriculture is a global movement to make Agriculture more sustainable and bio innovations is a vital part of these reforms which includes conventional/ rural bio technologies to gene editing tools like CRISPR

About one third of land use for agriculture in biodiverse tropics has contributed significant environmental footprints. Regenerative agriculture aims to reduce those footprints by achieving lower or net positive environmental and social impacts. Using intelligent bio innovative tools, the agriculture world can become net positive through reduced greenhouse gases, improved soil and water health and reduced input costs. The present conference will discuss on modalities for making agriculture to regenerate through innovative bio inputs.

BioAgri is going to be an annual destination event at Hyderabad, India for BioAgri Professionals.
